When choosing building materials for a project there are a number of things that you must consider in order to get the very best. Some of these factors include the appearance of the materials that you will use the durability of the materials in relation to your environment if the materials are re-usable or they can be recycled and the cost of buying the materials and the cost of maintaining the materials once they are in place. Green Building materials are also widely available. Green materials used for building refers to those that do not impact the environment negatively, they can be re-used and recycled and their extraction does not irreparably damage the environment.
Wood is typically long lasting especially with good care but it may not last very long in areas with plenty of humidity or in wet areas. In such areas, stone or brick may last longer as they will not rot. However it is aesthetic to use, it is easy to construct with and to transport and it does not damage the environment.
Brick is a common building material that is made of clay. The main benefits of using bricks is that they are aesthetic and they provide a uniform look which is neat and this building material lasts for long. However, it is bulky to transport and it can be expensive to purchase. Stone is similar to brick but it is harder than brick. Stone is a popular Green Building Construction Materials as it lasts longer and it is natural. It is very durable as it does not deform, it is not compromised by different weather patterns and is not damaged by fire.
Some of the downsides of using stone, however, are that it is not easily maneuvered during the building process and it has tension and stress limitations which if not corrected may result in a structurally compromised building. It is durable and economical to use. Iron and steel are other types of Exterior Cladding materials that are used to build structures. Mostly Bulky and heavy materials are more expensive to transport. For example, transporting stone is more expensive than transporting wood. If the materials are of a fragile nature, for instance, glasses, then you have to ensure that it is transported in a way that will ensure that it does not break.
