Generic Zyrtec contains an antihistamine drug called cetirizine. It is used to treat allergy symptoms such as a runny/stuffy nose, sneezing, red/itchy eyes, hives, and itching. The indications include hay fever (allergic rhinitis) and urticaria (nettle rash).

The drug blocks histamine, a chemical that is produced in the body an allergic reaction takes place. Please note that Generic Zyrtec is not intended for severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis.

Until 2007, cetirizine was a prescription drug. The FDA allowed the drug to be sold without prescription since 2007.

It is a fat that alcohol has a depressing effect on the central nervous system, and when it is combined with the allergy drug, it can cause sedation and severe drowsiness. Also, taking alcohol with this allergy medicine can affect your ability to think and judge.
