Dentistry is a form of medical field which has been around as long as civilization has prevailed on this planet. Ranging from teeth cutting stones to tooth pulling barbers dentistry stretches its roots up to 7000 BCE. Like everything dentistry also evolved with the advancements of technology. In this article we will be looking at the evolution of dentistry where it  went from pulling the teeth with strings to the modern dental clinics in Chennai

The budding dentist:

The earlier stages of dentistry can be traced back to the Indus valley civilization which is now Pakistan, northeast Afghanistan and northwest India. At first the dentist was using wooden tools to remove cavities and people who were doing the work were not professionals. If you’re living in middle age europe it is no wonder that your teeth will be pulled by a barber while giving you a haircut. Hence we should be thankful to the modern day dental equipment used by the trained professionals.

The Evolution:

In the 18th century a french surgeon Pierre fauchard who is now called as the father of modern dentistry wrote a book called “The surgeon dentist” which defined the first comprehensive dental system. As years passed the first dental x-ray was taken in the year 1896 and shortly a few years later anesthesia started to come into play for the comfortable treatment. Now we are going through a pretty big time jump. In the 1990’s cosmetics and advanced dental treatments such as teeth whitening, crowning, dental implants and digital x rays became widespread. Which are now used in the modern era by the trained professionals from the dental clinics in Bangalore.

The various inventions:

As early as 3000 BCE the twigs were the most commonly used toothbrush among the people from southern part of India, babylons and mayans. Even Though the first bristle toothbrush was invented in China, the modern day toothbrush design was invented in England using cow bone handles and pigs hide.

It is believed that the Egyptians were using paste to clean their teeth long before they came up with the idea of toothbrush. Countries like China and India were using paste from 500 BCE itself. In the year 1873 the first toothpaste company was founded and named as Colgate, which was mass producing toothpaste in jars and started to produce in tubes from the 1890’s to now.

The Future:

The field of dentistry has come a long way from teeth cutting stones and tooth pulling barbers to the various technological advancements which we see in the modern dental clinics in Mumbai. For instance in future lasers can be used to prevent cavities before tooth decay. Robots are also coming into play nowadays, in China the world's first robotic dental surgery was performed which was led by a robot under the supervision of humans. Artificial intelligence is also being created to interpret scans and x rays to diagnose the teeth.
