Officially opened to the public in 1858, the park now hosts approx. 38 million visitors per year and covers 843 acres of land in the Manhattan district. Designated as a National Historic Landmark since 1963 and as a New York City scenic landmark since 1974, the park is owned by New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

The location of countless movie and TV scenes, and in fact, the location used in more movies than any other, Central Park holds a level of attraction for both tourists and New Yorkers that is rarely seen in other places. It is also a place which is constantly revisited by those who visit with only 14% of visitors being first-timers. Who is a visit to Central Park for?

As mentioned, the park is popular with New Yorkers and tourists alike but it is also popular across all ages and demographics. Everyone can appreciate and enjoy Central Park. For younger visitors there are things like the carousel, the zoo and the Wollman Rink while adults may prefer the historic locations or even some Shakespeare in the Park art the Delacorte Theater during summertime.
