What is oil casing?
Oil casing is a pipe used to fix the oil shell in the oil well and control the stability of the well wall. It is usually made of high-strength steel pipes that can be several kilometers long and range from a few inches to a foot in diameter. The purpose of casing an oil well is to protect the well walls and control pressure so oil and gas can flow through the wellhead. Casing is one of the most important components of an oil well and plays a vital role in well safety, production and environmental protection.

Design of oil casing
Oil casing must be reasonably designed according to different oil well types and geological conditions. The design principle is to ensure that the casing is strong enough while minimizing the cost of oil well construction and the impact on the well's output. Most oil casings reserve a certain gap in the oil well to accommodate complete control systems, such as valves, hooks, filling systems, etc., and they also need to be perforated at appropriate locations for oil layer testing and sampling. In terms of design, it is very important to choose the appropriate pipe diameter, wall thickness, material and connection method. Typically, large-diameter casing is used in vertical shafts, while small-diameter casing is used in horizontal wells and wells with smaller borehole radii. The greater the wall thickness, the greater the load-bearing capacity of the casing, but it also increases the construction cost. Therefore, comprehensive considerations need to be made based on geological conditions, well depth, environmental factors and economic costs when designing.
There are two main ways of connecting oil casing: threaded connection and seamless welding. The threaded connection facilitates the disassembly of a certain casing to find a specific fault, but its pressure resistance is weak, so seamless welding is often used in high-pressure wells and water injection wells.
Construction of oil casing
Oil casing needs to be operated according to specific procedures during the construction process to ensure the stability and operational safety of the oil well.
Before construction, the wellbore needs to be cleaned to remove impurities and dirt. Then, install the casing support device and lower pipeline equipment at the wellhead to ensure that the casing is smoothly lowered to the bottom of the well. Then, connect the end of the casing with the "oil pipe sleeve joint" and reinforce and position it at the bottom of the well with a platform or other tools.
During the process of lowering the oil casing, attention needs to be paid to the installation angle and neatness to avoid deformation or displacement caused by lowering the casing, which will affect the output of the oil well. After the casing is lowered, water injection testing and cement pouring are required to ensure that the casing fits tightly with the well wall and the well body is stable.
Oil casing is a vital part of oil exploration, and its design and construction play a vital role in the safety and stability of the well. When designing and constructing, it is necessary to comprehensively consider various factors such as geological conditions, well depth, environmental factors, and economic costs to achieve safe, efficient, and economical results.
