What is galvanized pipe?
Galvanizing refers to a surface treatment technology that coats the surface of metal, alloy or other materials with a layer of zinc for aesthetics and rust prevention. The main method used is hot dip galvanizing. Galvanized pipe, also known as galvanized steel pipe, is divided into two types: hot-dip galvanizing and electro-galvanizing. Hot-dip galvanizing has a thick zinc layer and has the advantages of uniform coating, strong adhesion, and long service life. The cost of electro-galvanized pipes is low, the surface is not very smooth, and its corrosion resistance is much worse than that of hot-dip galvanized pipes.
Galvanizing process of steel pipe
1. Preparation work: Clean the surface of the steel pipe to remove surface impurities and grease.
2. Pickling: Immerse the steel pipe in an acidic solution to remove rust and oxidation on the surface of the steel pipe.
things.
3. Soaking: Immerse the pickled steel pipe into the pretreatment liquid to fully roughen the surface and enhance the adhesion between the coating and the steel pipe surface.
4. Cleaning: Rinse the pretreated steel pipe to remove residual pretreatment liquid and impurities.
5. Drying: Put the cleaned steel pipe into the drying equipment to fully dry the surface.
6. Immerse in the molten zinc bath: Immerse the dried steel pipe into the molten zinc bath so that the zinc liquid adheres to the surface of the steel pipe.
7. Cooling: Take the galvanized steel pipe out of the zinc tank and cool it to solidify the zinc liquid to form a zinc layer.
8. Inspection: Conduct appearance quality inspection, thickness measurement, etc. on the galvanized steel pipes.
9. Packaging: Pack the galvanized steel pipe according to product requirements.
What is pipe schedule?
A pipe schedule (SCH) is a measure of a steel pipe's nominal wall thickness. In the past, metal fabricators used three pipe dimensions — standard, extra strong, and double extra strong. Just having these three undetermined dimensions wasn't helpful, though . So today, steel pipes come in 14 different schedules.
Today, 14 pipe schedule numbers are used: SCH 5, SCH 5S, SCH 10, SCH 10S, SCH 20, SCH 30, SCH 40S, SCH 60, SCH 80, SCH 80S, SCH 100, SCH 120, SCH 140, and SCH 160.
"SCH" indicates the ratio of the design pressure of the pipe to the allowable stress of the material used at the design temperature, multiplied by 1000 and rounded. SCH = (1,000) *(P/S), where P is the internal working pressure od the pipe, while S signifies how much stress the material can be subjected to.
What is schedule 40 galvanized pipe?
To improve SCH 40 steel pipe’s corrosion resistance, steel manufacturers usually galvanize the steel, which means to plate it with a layer of zinc.
The best way to see the relationship between pipe size, schedules and wall thicknesses is simply to refer to a conversion chart (below):

Prices of schedule 40 galvanized pipe
The price of schedule 40 galvanized pipe depends on length, grade, and volume at purchase. Different projects have different prices. For specific price information, you can consult the schedule 40 galvanized pipe manufacturer .
