Choosing built-in wardrobes is more than just about practicality and customizability. It can also be one of the most inspired financial decisions you can make. Why? Well, what other furnishing accessory provides the same longevity? If there is one thing you should purchase, for day-to-day storage necessities, it should be a closet. Not only will you use it every single day, maybe multiple times per day, but you will also eliminate the need to invest in other pieces of furniture, like storage boxes or shoe racks.
Built-in wardrobes in Sydney, can be personalised however you see fit, and be equipped with features and accessories that make sense for your daily routine, that help with garment upkeep, and that can allow you to transform unused room square footage into practical, functional storage. It’s not about the looks, but rather it’s how your newly-designed closet fits with the specifications of your dwelling. I, for example, live in a small flat, and, for my storage requirements, I had to choose a closet with sliding wardrobe doors, as this was the only way to make my bedroom look a bit more spacious.
For you, on the other hand, a better solution could be to select built-in wardrobes with conventional, hinged wardrobe doors and with adjustable pull-out racks. No two dwelling layouts will be identical to each other. Custom wardrobes can improve the storage of your garments, which is necessary in order to prevent fabric damage or excessive wrinkling. Plus, they are a way to showcase your design preferences and invest in furnishing accessories that complement your aesthetic vision. This, in turn, will have a positive effect on your property’s valuation and make the investment in a custom closet pretty much pay for itself.
What Wardrobe Designs Trends Can I Take Advantage Of?
Honestly, your options when it comes to customizability are only limited by your budget and personal preferences. For my part, when I decided to purchase my custom-designed built-in wardrobes in Sydney, I went for something simple, that accentuated my room’s aesthetic principles while also keeping costs down. I didn’t need, for example, a clothing rod or LED lighting for all the shelves. But my preferences don’t have to be necessarily similar to yours.
The beauty of custom wardrobes is that they can be personalised however you see fit. You could, for example, go for a floor-to-ceiling option with slidable, top-quality wardrobe doors that maximise the entirety of the space available in your bedroom, and that leaves no nook and cranny unused. A closet like this can only be custom-made, as in-store prefabs will not conform exactly to the dimensions of your dwelling. But that’s only one thing. You can also choose the positioning of your shelving and drawers, and select the materials used in the composition of the closet.
I, for one, decided to go for melamine, as it was a bit cheaper than MDF. That said, for the wardrobe doors, I’ve decided to splurge a bit and go for a combination of metal with matte-glass finish, which provides a nice contrast. You, on the other hand, might choose something completely different. I went for sliding doors because of my bedroom’s space constraints, but in a different room configuration, conventionally-hinged doors might be a better fit. That’s the thing with custom closets; they are designed to mould exactly to your preferences, and because of this, they provide the best price-to-quality ratio on the market.
What About the Purely Financial Benefits?
Built-in, custom-made wardrobes are seen as premium furnishing accessories, and because of this, they can significantly add to your property’s market valuation. Granted, they will not have an ROI of more than 500%. Realistically speaking, if you spend $2,000 on a new closet, you can expect the same value to be added to the property’s market valuation. But, that’s not bad, isn’t it? You’re basically purchasing a practical and aesthetically pleasing storage item that will have a positive impact on your daily living, without receiving any sort of financial hit.
In most cases, if you decide to sell, you will recoup your money without any issues, and the custom-made closet might also be beneficial in increasing buyer appeal and making you stand out among other properties. This is important, as the Sydney real estate market is in a bit of a stagnation right now. Property prices have risen considerably in the last couple of years, but this also priced most Aussie families out of properties available for median market values. Even though we are experiencing a housing shortage, houses right now are somewhat of a tough sell, as they are simply too expensive.
You can’t reasonably be expected to list your property for a price that’s below the median values found in Sydney. Therefore, you could at least try to make it more unique among other listed dwellings. A built-in closet that makes use of premium features such as sliding wardrobe doors might help. Plus, it will allow you to maximise every centimetre of your space and make your rooms feel larger and be more functional, which in itself could positively impact your productivity.
Modularity Is the Keyword Here
Your space requirements will not remain stagnant. At least not forever. Do you really think you will not expand on your clothing collection in the near future? That you will not purchase some new items that’ll require a reconfiguration of your storage space? Two years ago, I made a pledge to purchase fewer clothes and be more prudent when it comes to impulse purchases. Last month I had to buy an extra closet, as I’ve run out of space. The point is, what’s appropriate now for your daily needs might not be enough, a couple of years into the future.
A custom wardrobe can be designed with modularity in mind, and therefore, utilise repositionable shelving and removable hanging rods that could be adaptable to your current situation. With a prefab, chances are that you will outgrow your closet. With a custom-made one, however, you can give yourself more breathing room.
