It enhances the resistance to chemicals and reduces the chances of corrosion in harsh conditions like marine structures, bridges, and industrial facilities. In harsh environmental conditions, the use of slag-based concrete can be used to greatly extend the service life of reinforced concrete structures.

Their use also results in a reduction of the amount of Portland cement used, which is a carbon-intensive material in the manufacture of concrete.
