Bundled Packaging Requirements for Seamless Steel Pipes

Seamless steel pipes should be bundled in a way that prevents damage during bundling and transport. Each bundle should contain pipes of the same furnace number (batch number), the same steel grade and the same specification. Pipes from different furnaces (batch numbers) should not be mixed in one bundle. Quantities too small to make a full bundle should be tied into small bundles.

Keeping one furnace number per bundle means every bundle can be traced back to a single heat. Tying leftover pipes into small bundles, instead of adding them to a full bundle, keeps that rule intact.

Bundling Methods and Strapping Details

Strapping depends on pipe length:

The numbers in a pattern such as 3-2-3 show how many straps are in each of the three groups. Longer pipes need more straps than shorter ones.

When special requirements apply, 4 plastic snap rings or nylon rope loops can be added to a single pipe. The snap rings or rope loops must be fastened firmly and must not loosen or fall off during transport.

Bundle Weight, Pipe Alignment and Identification

Bundle weight. Each bundle of seamless steel pipes should not exceed 50 kg. With the buyer’s consent, the bundle weight can be increased, but it should not exceed 80 kg. 

Pipe alignment. When bundling plain-end seamless steel pipes, one end of the bundle should be aligned, and the difference between pipe ends at the aligned end should be less than 20 mm. The length difference within a bundle should be less than 10 mm. Aligning one end gives the bundle a flat reference end, so any length difference shows at the other end.

Identification. Bundling labels should be uniform. Each bundle holds one furnace number (batch number), one steel grade and one specification, as required above.
