What is meant by Tincture?

Through these methods, variable results are produced in terms of ratio and strength. But you can have a track of how much herb and liquid is used so that you can be consistent in your results while re-making the Tincture next time.
Supplies required for tincture making
There is no need for too much supply for the tincture making. Few materials are only required for the tincture making; these are as follows-
- Rubber band
- Funnel
- Dry or fresh herbs. It is highly recommended to purchase high-quality herbs.
- Muslin or cheesecloth
- Tincture bottles
- Vodka or brandy with a high proof ( 80 proof for fresh herbs, and 60 proof for dry herbs)
- Wide-mouthed canning jars and tight-fitting lids
- Lastly, patience, as it takes time.
Steps of tincture making
- First, remove all the dried or fresh herbs off the stalks.
- Chop the fresh herbs and grind the dried herbs into fine form to increase their surface area for the maceration. Then place the herbs into a clean and dry jar with having a wide mouth.
- Add the high-proof alcohol into the jar until the whole herb is submerged. As dry herbs can absorb the liquid, check and add alcohol as needed.
- Then cover it tightly with a lid & place it in a dark place without disturbing it for about 4-6 weeks. This will allow soaking and macerating.
- You can shake the jar every 3-4 days to ensure that the desired alcohol level is maintained.
- Once the macerating is complete, layer the cheesecloth and strain the mixture through this cheesecloth with your clean hands.
- Squeeze it tightly so that every possible liquid is drained from the herbs.
- Allow the material to settle down overnight and re-filter it through the small filter paper.
- Using the funnel, transfer it into the amber bottle and keep it away from the sunlight.
