These are products like antibacterial soaps, harsh exfoliants, and other harsh cleansers and chemicals. Thankfully, plenty of products can cleanse your face while not disrupting this ecosystem. Instead, they can help it flourish.
Look for products with prebiotics and postbiotics. Prebiotics are ingredients that can give your microbiome the fuel it needs to continue functioning at its best to protect your skin. Postbiotics are the “output” of the live bacteria (probiotics) and fungi that lives on your skin. Postbiotics can be especially nourishing for your skin and create a more healthy and balanced microbiome.
Focus on Daily Habits That Give Back to Your Microbiome
Using prebiotic and postbiotic skincare products can help, but they can only do so much. Other things you do throughout the day can help, too. These include keeping your skin hydrated and your body nourished with food your microbiome loves. Keep Up Your Skincare Regimen
Creating habits to promote a healthy skin microbiome is a great way to encourage more even-toned, clear skin. But that doesn’t mean you must give up your current skincare regimen. It could mean, however, swapping some of the products in said regimen.
Using harsh cleansers or antibacterial soaps can create an unbalanced microbiome. Removing these and replacing them with pre- or postbiotic cleansers can be helpful.
It may also be helpful to replenish moisture with extra hydrating products such as a hydrating toner to give your skin added hydration and nourishment.
