Oxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic, which is usually used to treat various infectious diseases, such as anthrax, chlamydia, cholera, typhus, relapsing fever, malaria, platelet, syphilis, respiratory tract infection, streptococcal infection and acne. Large doses of Oxycycline can cause considerable side effects, some of which may be life-threatening. A number of evidences show that Oxycycline can cause severe vesicular steatosis of human liver. It is reported that excessive use of Oxycycline can cause liver damage (Saraswat et al., 1997). Picroliv has a dose dependent ( 1.5 - 12 mg kg - 1, oral for 7 days) liver protective activity against Oxycycline (200 mg kg - 1) induced liver injury in rats. In vitro studies also showed that Picroliv protects hepatocytes from the cytotoxicity of Oxycycline and increases the number of living hepatocytes. Picroliv can prevent changes in the level of marker enzymes in isolated liver cells and serum, and can also increase the volume and content of bile (Saraswat et al., 1997). In conclusion, all these observations indicate that Picroliv is effective in the treatment of liver injury induced by Oxycycline.
Oxycycline hydrochloride (OTIMM) is an aquatic premix containing Oxycycline hydrochloride, which can be obtained through Pharmagate. OTIMM can be purchased through many local farm and ranch stores or veterinary supply outlets. The main objective of the field study conducted under INAD # 9033 was to assess the effectiveness of OTIMM in controlling bacterial disease mortality in various freshwater and marine species. Soaking therapy is usually the only option for young fish that are not used to eating artificial fish feed. The unwillingness or refusal of young fish to eat this feed precludes drug feed treatment as a therapeutic option. The treatment scheme is 1 hour static bath or flow volume treatment, and the dosage is 20 mg OTC/L, which can be continuously treated for 4 days. The drug withdrawal period was 21 days for single treatment of fish and 60 days for multiple treatment of fish.
Oxycycline is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic, which is the second one found.
Oxycycline works by interfering with the ability of bacteria to produce essential proteins. Without these proteins, bacteria cannot grow, reproduce and increase in number. Therefore, Oxycycline can prevent the spread of infection, and the remaining bacteria are killed by the immune system or eventually die.
Oxycycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, which is effective for a variety of bacteria. However, some strains of bacteria have developed resistance to this antibiotic, which reduces
its effectiveness in treating certain types of infections.
Oxycycline is used to treat infections caused by chlamydia (such as chest infection with psittacosis, eye infection with trachoma and genital infection with urethritis) and infections caused by mycoplasma organisms (such as pneumonia).
Oxycycline is also used to treat acne because it is active against the bacteria on the skin (Keratobacter acnes) that affect the development of acne. It is used to treat attacks of chronic bronchitis because of its activity against the commonly responsible bacterium Haemophilus influenzae. Oxycycline can also be used to treat other rare infections, such as those caused by a group of microorganisms called rickettsia (such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever). To determine that the bacteria causing the infection are susceptible, tissue samples, such as cotton swabs from infected areas, or urine or blood samples, are usually collected.
Oxycycline was patented in 1949 and put into commercial use in 1950. It is listed on the list of essential drugs of the World Health Organization
