Many examples in nature show the excellent structural properties of circular tubes under compression, torsion, and multi-directional bending. Buildings with large spaces and long spans, such as gymnasiums, exhibition halls, airport terminals, subway stations, and large industrial plants, are constantly emerging. Longitudinal welded pipes (ERW pipes or LSAW pipes) are welded under static conditions using double-sided submerged arc welding technology. The quality of the weld is high, the weld is short, and the probability of defects is very small. The welded tube is expanded through the full length, has good pipe shape, accurate size, wide range of steel pipe wall thickness and pipe diameter, high degree of automation, and low production cost compared with seamless steel pipe. It has broad prospects in the bearing columns of steel structures such as bridges, dams, and offshore platforms, super-long-span building structures, and tower mast structures.
