The SIA (Security Industry Authority) is an independent organization that is responsible to regulate all types of criminal activities and to raise the standards of service in this industry with quality assistance. The SIA license was created in order to improve the standards and the quality of private-security industry. This license is not only necessary for the roles of physical or manned security. It is equally essential for the professionals handling the CCTV surveillance.
Therefore, you need to possess a valid and current SIA licence if you want to become a door-supervisor or a security-guard. However, it is essential to undergo different types of training programs in order to join either of these professions. The training program for door-supervision enables you to work in multiple sectors within the private-security industry. On the other hand, the training program for security-guarding let you work in any premise other than the licensed premises, such as clubs, bars, festivals or events, where alcohol is either sold or consumed. Therefore, it is prudent to complete the door-supervision course if you want to secure all types of premises, as it gives you an array of options.
Requirements of Both Training Programs
Whether you opt for the security-guarding or door-supervision course in UK, you need to be at least 18 years old in order to participate in either of these training programs. It is equally essential to submit various documents as identity and address proofs, such as drivers’ licence, passport, bills or bank statements. It is important to remember that you cannot submit an address proof that is more than three years old, as an older document will be considered invalid.
The door supervision course in London is divided in four units and this fourth unit separates the door-supervision training program from the security-guarding training program. In this unit, the participants of the door-supervision training learn about the physical intervention skills and the legislation that is concerned with the private-security industry.
The fourth unit is absent in the security-guarding course. Therefore, the participants of the door-supervision course can work as door-supervisors or security-guards in all types of premises. However, the participants of security-guarding training program cannot work as door supervisors. The first three units of both courses offer almost the same type of training.
Unit-1
Through the first unit of both training programs, you learn about the legal aspects of the private-security industry. You also learn how to secure the health and safety of private-security operatives. You learn about the emergency procedures and how to create fire-safety awareness. This unit also teaches the participants regarding the customer-care and can strengthen their communication skills.
Unit-2
In the second unit of security guarding course in London, you learn about the duties of a security-guard. On the other hand, you learn about the duties of a door-supervisor through the second unit of door-supervision course. This unit also teaches you how to create drug awareness, search/arrest an individual, record an incident or to preserve a crime scene.
Unit-3
The third unit of both courses teach the conflict management techniques for the private-security industry. You can learn how to avoid, diffuse or resolve a conflict and to reduce the personal risks.
