Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Yoga, Naturopathy, Homoeopathy, and, more recently, Sowa-Rigpa are the seven traditional Indian health systems recognized by the Indian health system (Tibetan system of medicine). Ayurveda is probably the most well-known of these. Ayurveda is made up of two words: ayu (life) and Veda (knowledge), and it is concerned with health and well-being. Ayurveda's purpose is to preserve life while also restoring health and well-being. Ayurveda's view of health is holistic and dynamic, explaining health as a "many-sided equilibrium" (Samya), which arises from balanced interactions and interrelations with living beings and their surroundings. Ayurveda addresses not just the physical and mental components of health, but also the spiritual, social, and environmental aspects.
