What are Square Tubes?

Square and rectangular tubes are a type of steel pipe, referring to steel pipes with sides of equal or unequal lengths. They are made from steel strips through a process of rolling. Generally, steel strips are unpacked, flattened, rolled, and welded into round tubes, which are then rolled into square tubes and cut to the required lengths.

After nearly ten years of development, my country's square and rectangular tube industry has continuously optimized and improved its product structure, quality level, and technical equipment, becoming a veritable world-leading manufacturer of square and rectangular tubes and is moving towards becoming a world-class industrial power in this field.

Classification of Square Tubes:

The galvanizing methods for square and rectangular tubes are mainly divided into hot-dip galvanizing and cold galvanizing. Hot-dip galvanizing is a form of galvanizing where the metal is immersed in a molten zinc bath at approximately 449℃ (840°F), causing the zinc to alloy with the surface of the base metal.

Currently, the domestic hot-dip galvanized product manufacturing industry mainly comprises two camps: steel companies and hot-dip galvanizing processing companies. Among them, my country's hot-dip galvanizing processing companies are mostly concentrated in Hebei and surrounding areas, and Jiangsu province.

What is Hot-Dip Galvanized Square Tube?

Hot-dip galvanized square tube, also known as hot-dip galvanized steel pipe, is a square tube made of steel plate or strip used for pressing and forming, and formed by hot-dip galvanizing. The production process is relatively simple, with high production efficiency, a small variety of square tubes, and very low equipment and capital requirements, making it suitable for small-scale galvanized square tube manufacturers. However, the strength of this type of steel pipe is far lower than that of seamless square tubes.

Cold-dip galvanized square tube, on the other hand, uses the principle of cold galvanizing to give the square tube corrosion resistance. The main difference between cold-dip galvanizing and hot-dip galvanizing is that cold-dip galvanizing uses an electrochemical principle for corrosion protection. Therefore, it is essential to ensure sufficient contact between the zinc solution and the steel to generate an electrode potential difference, making surface treatment of the steel very important.

Advantages of Hot-Dip Galvanized Square Tubes:

Hot-dip galvanized square tubes offer advantages such as strong coating toughness, firm adhesion, high ductility, and durability.

Low Processing Costs – Hot-dip galvanizing for rust prevention is less expensive than other paint coatings.

Strong Coating Toughness – The galvanized layer forms a special metallurgical structure that can withstand mechanical damage during transportation and use.

Firm Adhesion – The galvanized layer is metallurgically bonded to the steel, becoming part of the steel surface, thus ensuring reliable coating durability.

High Ductility – Zinc has excellent ductility, and its alloy layer adheres firmly to the steel substrate. Therefore, hot-dip galvanized parts can undergo various forming processes such as cold stamping, rolling, wire drawing, and bending without damaging the coating.

Durability – In suburban environments, standard hot-dip galvanized rust prevention thickness can last for over 50 years without repair. In urban or coastal areas, standard hot-dip galvanized rust prevention can last for 20 years without repair.
