1. Know Your Audience
The first step to hiring great leaders is knowing who you want to hire. You need to know what type of leader you are looking for, how they think, and what their strengths and weaknesses are. If you don't have a clear picture of who you want to hire, then you won't be able to effectively screen them out.
2. Understand Their Strengths & Weaknesses
Once you've identified your ideal candidate, you'll need to understand where they excel and where they struggle. You should ask yourself questions like: What do they love about their job? What do they hate about their job? What skills do they have that I don't? How would they describe themselves? What are their strengths? What are their weaknesses?

3. Identify Potential Problems
You may not realize it, but everyone struggles at some point in time. So, you need to identify potential problems before you start interviewing candidates. Ask yourself these questions: Are they overconfident? Do they lack confidence? Are they lazy? Are they arrogant? These are just a few examples of things you should consider.
4. Create a List of Questions
Now that you've done your research, you're ready to create a list of questions to ask each candidate. There's no right way to interview someone, but here are some questions you might want to ask:
- Tell me about a time when you failed.
- Describe a situation where you were under pressure and how you handled it.
- What was the best decision you ever made? Why did you make it?
- What are your biggest strengths?
- What are some of your biggest weaknesses?
- What motivates you?
