Artist's Guide for Selecting Good Art Gallery on Internet

Art exhibitions provide a platform for artists to make their unique ideas public, for sale, or just for awareness. The purpose of an art exhibition is unique to each exhibition, driven by the artist's ideas and the organizer.

However, organizing an art exhibition can be daunting and time-consuming, and the cost of organizing such an event is usually on the high side. This process can be overwhelming for budding artists, and it's no surprise that many of them give up at this point.

Now, with the numerous art galleries available online, you do not need to host an art exhibition before you can showcase your arts. However, you can't just rent or buy the first online art gallery you come across. Below we have compiled a list of factors you should consider when choosing a good online art gallery.

1. The reputation of the website

When looking for a website to showcase your art, it is best to take a small survey on people's opinions about various online art galleries. This will help you gather information about the website's reputation. The kinds of reputation a website can have are; negative or malicious reputation, positive reputation, mixed reputation, and in some cases, you may have little or no information about the website.

All you need to know about the reputation is a quick search for comments, reviews, articles, and references about the website. Also, ensure that the website you want to settle for deals exclusively in art and gallery services. The internet comprises numerous websites, with only a few dealing with artwork services.

2. Cost of gallery rental

Indeed, renting an art gallery in a city is considerably higher than an online art gallery. This is one of the advantages of renting an online art gallery. Rental costs of online art galleries are always very affordable. So why pay more for an art gallery in a city when you can get the same benefits and even more with an online art gallery.

The cost of renting online art galleries is gradually decreasing; some are free, of course, with limited services.

3. Gallery commission sales

Art galleries add an extra sum to your final selling price called a commission to help pay for their salaries, publicity, and other business costs. Many websites charge a commission of about 20-30% of the sell value, which can be pretty high from the artist's point of view. However, you can still negotiate with the gallery to ensure you get the best deal possible. It is advisable to contact about two or three websites to compare commission rates to win the best bargain.

4. Multiple payment methods

The days of sending and receiving payments by traditional methods such as Cheque, Demand draft, money order, etc., are long gone. More secure and advanced payment methods such as credit cards, electronic funds transfer, PayPal, etc., are now widely used. Artists should keep this in mind when choosing an online art gallery. People hate delays in payment when buying or selling online. So it is advisable to go with a website that provides both traditional and modern e-payment systems. This provides flexibility for online buyers as well sellers.

5. Discussion forum

A live forum on a website improves communication and collaboration between your audiences. It allows them to interact with each other, share ideas and discuss the arts.
