With a long tradition in the chemical industry, companies that want to be at the forefront of new development and innovation in the industry have found an ideal position in the Netherlands. Companies like royal shell, Dow, SABIC, avantium, covestro, DSM and Teijin all have strong influence in the Netherlands, taking advantage of sustainable innovation opportunities, connectivity, language skills and international thinking provided by the Netherlands.

Dutch chemical companies benefit from the access it provides to the European market. This country is ideally located in the heart of the EU, making it a great base where you can reach 170 million consumers within a 500 kilometer radius. The Netherlands is also in the middle of the Antwerp Rotterdam Rhine Ruhr region (arrra), which is one of the five largest chemical industry clusters in the world, accounting for 30-40% of the turnover of European chemical industry. This ideal location brings the industry close to the end markets of automobiles, construction, agriculture and consumer products.

Global challenges in the areas of climate change, recycling, mobility, health and food provide opportunities for the chemical industry. It also continues to attract investment from big companies such as SABIC, Neste, Mitsui and Teijin, as well as from innovative foreign companies such as recycling technologies and coolbrook.

In this ecosystem of innovative chemical start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises, there are public-private partnerships (PPPs), university campuses and knowledge institutions that focus on finding solutions for the future.
