Explore How CSS Colors Work
No two individuals will recognize the exact color shade by its name. It seems complex for humans themselves. So, imagine how difficult it will be for computers to identify and use those exact colors. However, coding has a solution for everything. But coding needs precision, and precision comes with CSS colour codes.
The hexadecimal codes are the base of CSS color codes. These codes consist of six characters with a combination of ten numerals and six alphabets. The codes preceded by a hash are easier for computers to understand.
Understand RGB concept first:
RGB or Red-Green-Blue are the primary colors that combine to form other color shades. In other words, each LED screen pixel displays colors made from combinations of these three colors. These colors can take values from 0 to 255, 0 being the darkest & 255 being the brightest. For example, RGB(0,0,0) means black & RGB(255,255,255) means white. By using this RGB color values, coders can define a color for the computer.
Hexadecimal color values come next:
Representing colors in CSS is also possible with hexadecimal values. These values use digits from 0 to 9 and alphabets from A to F. The CSS hex color values also get derived from the RGB concept. A hexadecimal value contains six digits. In this value, two digits represent red, the next two represent green, and the last two represent blue. For instance, #000000 is black, #FFFFFF is white, etc. All these hexadecimal values can also get shortened and used in coding, such as using #F00 for red, etc.
HSL color values are useful too:
HSL is short for hue, saturation, and lightness. It is also a way to pick web colors like RGB and hexadecimal. In HSL values, all three categories follow different rules. For instance, hue uses the color wheel concept and determines the color. On other hand, saturation represents the 'gray' amount in the color. At last, the amount of 'black' and 'white' is its lightness. Coders use percentages to express them.
CSS color gradient is a bonus:
Coders can create color transitions with the help of CSS color gradients. This function is for background images rather than the entire background. Moreover, coders can define the size and position of the gradient accordingly. It is completely manageable for coders.
