Before taking this medicine

Do not use anastrozole if you are allergic to it or if you have not yet gone through menopause.

• coronary artery disease (blocked arteries);
• high cholesterol; or
• osteoporosis or low bone mineral density.

Hormonal cancer treatments can make your bones weak. You are more likely to have a fracture while taking anastrozole. Talk to your doctor about how to maintain bone health.

Although it is unlikely that a postmenopausal woman will become pregnant, anastrozole can be harmful to an unborn baby. A negative pregnancy test may be required before starting this treatment. Use effective birth control if you are not postmenopausal. Continue to use birth control for at least 3 weeks after your last dose of anastrozole. Tell your doctor if you become pregnant.

What happens if I miss a dose?

Take the medication as soon as possible, but skip the missed dose if it is almost time for the next dose. Do not take two doses at once.

What should I avoid while taking anastrozole?
