Stepper motor noise is unavoidable, but you can control its use conditions and control methods to relatively reduce the noise. There are two main aspects of motor noise generation: inherent noise and resonance.
Inherent noise: the motor in the process of rotation, the mechanical structure of the mutual contact generated. It is impossible to eliminate, but through some methods can reduce the noise to a certain extent. Adjust the load or drive current to avoid the noise caused by the motor out of step (jump step) due to the load is too large (too small); the use of subdivided drive, so that the motor current changes as close as possible to the cosine curve changes to reduce the output torque fluctuations due to changes in current, resulting in some noise;
Noise caused by resonance: As there is a certain resonance region of the motor, using it in this speed range will cause the motor to resonate and generate noise. Therefore, for the noise caused by resonance, the motor should be avoided to run near the resonance area; when the motor is accelerated from the lower resonance area, it should be accelerated as fast as possible to keep away from the resonance area and reduce the noise.
When the stepper motor generates noise, we need to judge the source of the noise first, and then take the corresponding solution.
You can judge the cause of the noise according to the following ways:
1. Judge whether it is the resonance of the motor.
When the speed of the stepping motor is within the resonance area, the motor will resonate and make noise.
2. Determine whether the noise is generated by the motor itself.
The motor may be slightly deformed due to various reasons during use, causing the motor's stator and rotor to contact and rub together, thus making noise.
Try to remove the motor and rotate the motor shaft by hand to see if it jams. If there is, there is friction between the stator and rotor of the motor.
Check the environment in which the motor is used.
3. Determine if the noise is generated by other parts near the motor.
Noise may be generated by other parts near the motor and be mistaken for motor noise.
Check as above. If there is no jamming, the motor is normal.
Please check the condition of other parts to find the source of noise and solve it.
