The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is the licensing authority in UK for the private security industry. The main aim of SIA is to standardise and increase the skills as well as the professionalism of those employed in the Security industry. Therefore, it is essential to have a valid SIA licence if you want to become a Security Guard or Door Supervisor. However, it is essential to complete a training program from a SIA accredited training academy in order to be considered fit for the duty of supervising the doors at pubs, bars, shops or office buildings. Hence, the security courses of SIA give you the opportunity to keep the public safe in various locations.
A security guard with Door-Supervisor license can work at a premise where alcohol is sold or consumed. However, an individual who has the Security-Guard license cannot work at these premises. Therefore, a door-supervision license comes with a variety of opportunities in comparison to the Security-Guard license. A door-supervisor spends most of his/her time guarding the door when on duty and he/she performs a variety of tasks during this time.
1) They evaluate the suitability of the people who access a premise.
2) They also maintain the security protocols and procedures.
These tasks may seem simple. However, it requires adequate training in order to assess the suitability of the individuals entering different types of premise, as different types of individuals may frequent different types of premises. It is also impossible to learn the correct protocols/procedures of security without proper training. Hence, it is mandatory to complete the door supervision course from a SIA accredited centre if you want to join this industry in UK.
