The importing and exporting of drugs in any form is a huge problem in Australia. Division 307 of the Criminal Code 1995 (Cth) outlines import and export drug offences. The penalties depend upon the quantity and type of drugs in question but the maximum penalty in the legislation is a fine of 7500 penalty units ($825,000) and/or life imprisonment. The maximum penalty for such an offence is a fine of 3,500 penalty units ($385,000), and/or imprisonment for 20 years.

The supply of a prohibited drug is a serious offence under section 25 of the Drug Misuse and Trafficking Act 1985 (NSW).
