Why You Shouldn't Give Gifts To Kpop Idols

This post does not apply to all gifts given to idols but just the every expensive ones. Also this is not a demand post to stop but just some points on why this fandom culture could be viewed negatively. I’m making this post because recently Seventeen were accused of throwing away fan gifts.

PUT THE MONEY TO BETTER USE

If you really want to spend your money on idols there’s a better way that’ll befit you both… buying albums/songs. Buying albums and songs from iTunes helps idols with their popularity and leads to a successful career, you also get something out of it. Show your support in the right way.

THEY ALREADY GET FREE STUFF

Unlike Hollywood celebrity, not all idols are rich however almost all idols get sponsored whether it’s their airport outfit or stage outfit etc.

THEY COULD REGIFT/THROW AWAY

Don’t give fandoms a reason to lose respect for idols. This has happened multiple times where idols have been caught in a scandal for regifting gifts to others or thrown away gift. Fans then get angry but no one really asked you to give them gifts in the first place.

IS IT REALLY YOUR MONEY?

It’s great to see some fansites work together to collect money for idols gifts, I guess it’s not that bad then but what about those individual fans who are more likely student? They’re known for using their parents money that they’ve probably worked hard on earning.

GIFTING DOESN’T MEAN OWNING

Don’t except to demand things from idols just because you pay to see them or give them gifts, they’ve been countless reports on fans who were rude to idols when attending fan meets and the same happens when fans give idols gift and expect them to only love fans and not date.

YOU DON’T KNOW YOUR IDOLS

At the end of the day, none of us know what idols are like behind closed doors, though I won’t give example I’m sure we’re all thinking at least someone. We don’t know what idols intentions are just because they say they love fans doesn’t mean they don’t view them as ‘money makers’ because in some cases they do. they’ve been complaints of idols hinting to fans on SNS on gifts they want and they’ve been other times where they’ve shamelessly just begged for it.

GET IDOLS IN TROUBLE

As mentioned previously some idols get into scandal that started with fan gifts. Some including begging for gifts, re-gifting, throwing away and the most rarest of them all Is fans gifting inappropriate presents… well actually that happens quite often but it’s rare for idols to get questioned on it. A photo BTS’s Jin got lots of attention for what appears to have been a condom that was gifted by a fan.

NOT ALL IDOLS ACCEPT GIFTS

While previously I’ve mentioned idols in a negative light not all idols are like that, actually most of them aren’t greedy. Idols like Chen (www.kpoplove.net/chen-exo), D.O & GD etc. have refused and asked fans to not gift them because they already have their support, they’ve also mentioned fans should spend that money on friends and family. Another reason for this could be some feel pressured to accept expensive gifts because they feel they need to pay back for it some way for another(provide more fan service).

GIFTS THAT ARE MORE VALUED BY IDOLS

I’ve noticed that idols like fanart or something related to the idols more and is kept in their room and valued more. All in all take that effort you put in giving expensive and luxury gifts and give it to a loved one in real life and/or charity.
