HOW is the medication to be taken?

Itraconazole sporanox comes in oral dosage forms of 10 mg/mL and 100 mg capsules. pause.  The kind of infection being treated will determine the dosage of itraconazole. Usually, it is administered once or twice a day. 

Take the itraconazole pills right away after a substantial meal. 

It is best to take the oral solution of itraconazole without meals. Since an acidic stomach is required for itraconazole to be efficiently absorbed, avoid consuming an antacid (Maaloxⓨ, Tums, etc.) or didanosine (Videxﺪ) at the same time as the itraconazole capsules. If you must take didanosine (Videx ) or antacids, do so at least one hour before or two hours after taking the itraconazole pills. 

Take itraconazole capsules with carbonated cola drink or cranberry juice to improve absorption if you are taking anti-ulcer medications that can lower stomach acidity, such as ranitidine (Zantac), famotidine (Pepcid), pantoprazole (Pantoloc), lansoprazole (Prevacid), omeprazole (Losec), rabeprazole (Pariet), and esomeprazole (Nexium). 

How should you proceed if a dosage is FORGOTTEN?

Take itraconazole as soon as possible if you miss a dose. But if it's time for your next dosage, stick to your usual routine and don't take two doses at once. 

What side effects are this medication likely to have? How ought one to respond to them?

Common side effects include headache, dizziness, vomiting, diarrhea, and nausea; they should pass as your body becomes used to the medication. Contact your pharmacist or physician if they start to cause you any trouble.

The following medications should not be used if your doctor has recommended itraconazole:

Hismanal (Astemizole) 

Cisapride (also known as Prepulsid) 

Dofetilide 

Eletriptan ~ Ergot alkaloids, including ergotamine, methylergometrine (methylergonovine), dihydroergotamine, and ergometrine (ergonovine) 

Levomethadyl Lovastatin (also known as Mervectedal) 

Midazolam used orally (Versed ) 

Pimozide (Orap) ~ Nisoldipine 

Terfenadine (Seldane) ~ Quinidine (Biquin Durules) 

Triazolam (Halcion) ~ Simvastatin (Zocor) 

Itraconazole Sporanox should only be taken by women who are capable of becoming pregnant if they are using a reliable method of birth control, such as a birth control pill or condom. 

Pregnant women shouldn't use itraconazole. Additionally, it is NOT advised to breastfeed while using this medication. If this worries you, please talk to your pharmacist or doctor. 

How should I store this medication?

The oral solution and capsules containing itraconazole sporanox should be kept out of children's reach and at room temperature in a cool, dry environment (15–25°C). They should also be shielded from light. Verify the medication's expiration date (shown as the "EXP") on the exterior of the container to be sure it hasn't passed. 

Do not store it in your bathroom or kitchen, as heat and moisture may cause the drug to be less active
