Passive RFID temperature sensors detect temperature in the following ways:
Passive temperature sensors, which use the RFMicron S3 chip, detect temperature using circuit theory and the ability of temperature to change the voltage across a diode. This effect has the potential to turn a portion of the chip into a temperature sensor. Because temperature sensor tags return a simple 12-bit code based on what it detects rather than an actual unit of measurement, these values can be used to correlate the temperature of almost any object. Passive RFID supports monitoring environmental and bulk material temperatures, as well as data center chiller and cooling monitoring, in warehousing and data centers.
