Bee Packages are available for pickup in April

The Colony in Massachusetts (https://thecolonyma.com) offers a variety of beekeeping supplies, including honey bees in the form of packages and nucleus colonies (nucs), we also carry queen bees from April -September.

Lets first find out what are nucs, queen bees and packages?

Nucleus Colonies (Nucs):

1. A nucleus colony, or nuc for short, is a small, established honey bee colony. It usually consists of 4-5 frames containing worker bees, brood, honey, and pollen, as well as a mated queen. Nucs are a popular way to start a new hive because they provide a head start in comparison to starting with a package of bees. Since the queen is already laying eggs and the bees have built up some resources, the colony can expand more quickly.

Queen Bees:

2. A queen bee is the only reproductive female in a honey bee colony. She is responsible for laying all the eggs, which will develop into worker bees and drones (male bees). Sometimes, beekeepers need to replace a queen due to various reasons such as poor performance, old age, or loss of the queen. In such cases, purchasing a mated queen can help re-establish the colony.

3 lb packages of Honey bees with unmarked and marked queens are available for pickup throughout the month of April packages are reserved ahead of time with anticipated pick up dates.

Rossman Packages are available throughout April. Wilbanks packages of Honeybees with marked queens are available for pickup at the end of April and the middle of May.  Along with this, the Colony located in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts also sells Carniolan, Italian and Locally Bred Queens.
