Why Do You Need to Reset an Xfinity Router?

Instances might occur when you lose or forget the login password of the router or you want to enhance the overall performance of the device. In such cases, performing a router reset can work the best. However, it is recommended that you note down the router settings on a notepad so that you can refer to them while reconfiguring the router later. This is because the reset will erase all your previously configured settings of the router. Once the reset is done, you can access Xfinity Router admin console and make necessary changes to it.

Stepwise Process to Reset an Xfinity Router

Now that you know why you might need to reset an Xfinity Router, read on to explore the series of steps involved in resetting the device. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Locate the reset button of the Xfinity Router. Usually, it is situated at the back or bottom of the router.

  2. Ensure that the router is powered on and that the power LED is lit.

  3. Use a pointed object to press and hold the reset button of the router for 10 seconds and then release it.

  4. You will notice that the status lights of the router flicker and the router restarts.

  5. Wait until the router is completely restarted.

Once the reset is complete, if you notice that the Xfi Gateway blinking orange, don’t panic. It happens because the device is connecting at 10/100 Mbps. To get rid of this, you can restart the router by disconnecting the power adapter of the device from the electric socket and then connecting it back after two minutes. Once the issue of blinking orange light is resolved, you can log into the admin console of the router and click on the various tabs to reconfigure it. You can do it by first opening a web browser on your computer, visiting the router login page using the IP address of the router, and then providing the router login credentials in the spaces provided followed by a click on the “Login” button.
