CONTENT – The most critical part of the digital game. Your website content conveys your message, informs and educates the audience, persuades people to use your service over competitors. You might have heard about the phrase Content is the King! That's absolutely true, but you need a precise strategy, approach, and talent for that. One of the most crucial things you can do to attract and engage your audience is to provide them with high-quality content.
There are too many misconceptions! The myths about content strategies have been taken in by all, be it marketers, employers, prospects, SEOs or even strategists. People think content strategy is implementing new ideas into writing, while others consider it a one-time thing.
However, there's a significant difference between creating content just for the sake of creation and having it as a content strategy for achieving long-term goals for business success.
Further, we'll be exposing 10 content marketing misconceptions that are absolutely untrue.
Content strategy is only about theme-based content and keywords. The statement mentioned above is quite misleading; once, our client questioned our content strategy as they thought it was simple that they could perform it themselves, and there's no requirement of a digital firm to handle it.
But, the truth is creating theme-based content and targeting keywords is only one component of mastering content strategy.
A full-featured content strategy comprises the following factors –
- Amount and types of content needed for a specific marketing channel.
- Distinct marketing objectives to accomplish business objectives.
- Segregating the Target audience
- The overall general marketing plan composition.
- Goals that are SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely).
- KPIs implementation and analysis
- Guidelines for content developers and designers. Etc.
The list does not end here; there are so many other titbits that cannot be skipped for a complete strategic plan.
- Content strategy can only help SEO.
What? That's not true!
I agree, no content strategy is complete without a list of specified keywords, but it's not true that it's only reliable to SEO.
Each time you plan to create content, many people are already searching for it on the search engines, either by using branded or non-branded keywords.
You'll need a content strategy for the content calendar for email marketing, and trust me; you'll also need it for posting on social media.
In the next point, I will elaborate more on Social media.
2. Content strategy is the same as Social media content strategy.
No! No! No!
They're not the same. We've observed some business owners and marketers, especially in the E-commerce aura, those who use social media to handle their businesses are having this cloud of fallacy.
Talking about the content strategy, you'll be considering an all-encompassing approach that includes researching, auditing, planning, generating and managing the content and looking for its performance card to meet the business marketing objectives.
A social media content strategy is a separate aspect. Here, you create the content as per social media and fulfill your established goals.
If you need to hold the attention of both audiences, you'll need two different strategies; one will be the general content strategy as mentioned above, and the other one will be the social media content strategy that differs for every platform and target audience.
3. Content strategy = Content marketing
One great misconception! I've seen people using these terminologies interchangeably.
Content strategy is devising a content plan and looking for its implementation and distribution on your website and other web channels.
Although these two share some comparable goals and techniques, they also have some significant distinctions. Undoubtedly content marketing is critical, but it is only a part of a comprehensive content strategy.
In a nutshell, content strategy is the primary strategy, and content marketing is a component of it.
4. Content strategy is not made for my business.
Many of the E-commerce and SaaS (Software as a service) founders thought that a content strategy is of no use and it's not made for their businesses, but this is a misleading thought.
Many dealers don't even know what their products are called, so it's essential to have a relevant high-volume keyword for people to reach their products and services.
Here comes the use of a digital agency like Kinex media, which offers you the following advantages-
- We provide customer relationship management that is critical for every business type.
- We aid in accelerating your sales.
- We offer a sales guide plan.
- Content strategy for Enterprise SEO services
- And so on...
There are uncountable benefits! Even if you just need to increase the number of conversions, then also you'll need a detailed content strategy.
5. Content strategy is only well-being for the near future.
It's true that content strategy focuses on the short term, but that's not it.
Identifying everything your audience needs, considering the entire customer journey from initial contact to post-purchase follow-up, and then providing it to them in an entertaining and easy-to-consume manner is also part of an intelligent content strategy.
You can build a more integrated and realistic approach to your content by thinking about it in this way, which will benefit your business in both the short and long run.
6. SEOs can Handle Content Strategy.
SEOs are excellent! They know how search engines work and what users are searching for! SEOs are well qualified to handle the duties. However, they've so much more to do, such as –
- Website's technical hurdles
- Increased competition
- Monthly algorithm updates
- Indexing concerns with Google
- Keeping E-A-T afloat
- And the list continues...
To be fair, developing a content strategy is a difficult task because it requires a dedicated creator to consider business objectives, marketing objectives, and segmented marketing objectives, all of which must be met with the right content, in the right place, the right message and right time.
7. Calendars are the only thing that content strategists do.
This is a common misunderstanding among business owners about content strategists.
They're frequently dismissed as nothing more than calendar planners. While that is an important aspect of their profession, there's so much more to do. In actuality, their job entails much more than merely marking days on a calendar for scheduling and ensuring that items are published on time.
Strategists also help the brands build their content strategy that is effective for their business and aims at a particular goal. They help them choose the target audience and suggest better ways to reach the audience and appeal to them to pick your services.
Also, strategists make sure that everything is intact in the marketing strategy, which aids in the campaign's success.
Content writers can develop the content strategy.
- It may seem easy to hire a content writer and ask them to create content strategies as well. But, it's not a good idea! And the reason is –
A content writer can write or create articles, blog posts, site copies as per your requirements, but they cannot optimize that on the search engine. A content strategist should take complete charge of planning, producing and managing all sorts of content (audio, video, graphics and text etc.) to fulfill the demands of success from clients.
Remember: They are writers, not strategy developers.
Therefore, you should Indeed debunk this myth.
2. Content strategy is not quantifiable.
It is simple to measure content performance, but what about content strategy?
How we'll be able to know about the strategy performance.
While hiring content strategists, many business owners think if content strategists would do any good to their business or will they be able to track their performance?
Again, it's a myth.
It's evident if you're experiencing improvement and your content is driving results, your content strategy is generating positive outcomes.
So, if you're thinking of measuring performance, 'Compare' the current results with previous business outcomes.
"DO NOT LET THESE MYTHS MAKE YOUR BUSINESS ROI SUFFER"
To make content the actual King, implement the Right Strategy!
