Leather Attire:
“A simple leather jacket… has gotten me through cocktail parties in New York and cold nights in Afghanistan.” – Ronan Farrow
With the coming of winter, the chilly air triggers layering up in multiple apparels. It is well known that leather clothing has an intrinsic property of giving you the appearance of being cool while keeping you toasty warm. Leather jackets are a staple item that is found in everyone’s wardrobe. They are a versatile layering piece and elevatethe simple combination of t-shirts and jeans. Whether you prefer the classic black hue or want to experiment with fall colors, leather attire is the way to go.
A Brief History of Pilot Jackets:
The majority of aircraft used in World War I did not have enclosed cockpits, therefore the pilot needed to wear appropriate clothing to stay warm. The Aviation Clothing Commission was formally constituted by the US Army in September 1917, and heavy-duty leather flight jackets were then made available to soldiers. High necklines, zip fasteners with windshields, snug cuffs and waists, some with tassels, and linings made of fur were also featured.
These jackets gradually became well-loved and worn by all. The aviator jacket or pilot jacket became a fashion icon and was introduced to the masses through famous Hollywood movies and celebrities.
Regardless of the type of jacket, leather jackets have a very distinct style and always seem to be edgy. On the other hand, Leather Blazers are more adaptable. By adding jeans, shoes, or boots, you may dress it up or down and completely transform your appearance from traditional to cool.
Materials required for the creation:
The aviator jacket is often made of boiled wool for the torso which adds to the warmth and the leather sleeves feather banded wrists and waistbands for additional insulation. There have been numerous flight jacket styles and variations developed over time. While some are lined with wool, cotton, or silk, most are made of sheepskin.
Though often used interchangeably, there is much difference between sheepskin and lambskin. The difference lies in the age of the sheep when the hide is acquired. The lambskin is silkier and softer and provides a more luxurious feel. The leather blazers made from lambskin bestow added comfort and flexibility.
Characteristics of Lambskin Blazers and Pilot Jackets for Men:
Astonishing warmth
Since the second world war, aviator jackets have gained a steady increase in popularity. For crew members who occasionally fly at altitudes higher than 30,000 feet, these jackets can offer extra warmth. Even in the coldest winters, the coat stays warm because of the insulated air pockets created by the curling of the sheepskin. It is also breathable, enabling the wearer to stay cool throughout a long day.
Impervious to water
Lambskin is typically water-resistant by nature. The jacket's fibers include a robust waterproof coating that keeps water from penetrating the core. Wet steam can be absorbed by these cores without getting damaged. Lambskin serves a similar purpose to materials that regulate body temperature in that it absorbs moisture and repels water. Hence your skin can breathe and not get suffocated.
Absorbs moisture
It can perfectly keep you warm and dry in a wide range of temperatures. Because of its moisture-wicking properties, you may wear it everywhere you go without worrying about the weather. Also, it can easily remove moisture from your skin if you are prone to be clammy.
Increased resilience
If you take care of your aviator jackets and blazers, which are made of tight, robust lambskin, they will last you for many years. The durability of these attires makes them a great investment and can be passed down for generations.
