On January 5, according to the 2022 performance forecast of Zhenhua New Materials, the market promotion and application of the company's sodium ion battery cathode materials progressed smoothly. The cathode material of Zhenhua new material sodium ion battery is a layered oxide route, which has been upgraded to the second-generation product, and has improved in terms of capacity, first effect and alkalinity control compared with the first-generation product. At present, Zhenhua New Materials has sent samples to customers, and some of them have been produced and sold on a small scale.

On January 8, Xianfeng Group's sodium lithium battery new energy cathode material project with a total investment of 5.5 billion yuan was officially signed and settled in Zhijiang, Yichang, Hubei. The project plans to build 50000 tons of sodium-electric materials, and build a new project for the disassembly and recycling of 100000 tons of batteries annually.

In addition, at the end of 2022, Rongbai Technology mentioned in the telephone exchange meeting with investors that the current capacity of the company's sodium positive electrode is about 15000 tons/year, and the planned capacity of sodium positive electrode next year is 36000 tons/year.

The positive electrode material of sodium ion battery began to "step on the accelerator" on the road of industrialization. At the same time, it should be noted that the global sodium ion battery industrialization is still in its infancy, and domestic enterprises have seized the market opportunity.

The cathode materials of sodium ion batteries are mainly layered oxides, polyanionic compounds and Prussian compounds. At present, domestic enterprises focus on the layered oxide route and Prussian compound route.

At the end of November 2022, Zhongke Haina, which is based on the layered oxide route, announced that its Fuyang Haina, the world's first sodium ion battery GWh production line, was offline, which means that domestic enterprises have achieved leadership in the production capacity of sodium ion batteries.

In addition, CATL Battery's products with Prussian compounds as the technical route are expected to be mainly used in the field of energy storage; In terms of power, CATL will take sodium ion battery as a supplement, and realize the mixing of sodium and lithium and improve the energy density of the battery system through the innovative AB battery system integration technology.

The rise of sodium-power has also caused waves in the capital market, and many parties have made cross-border investments in sodium-power.

In April 2022, CNOOC was invested 4.13 million yuan by Huawei's Hubble Technology; In November 2022, Beijing Kuxun Technology, a subsidiary of Meituan, became the third largest shareholder of ultra-sodium new energy with a shareholding ratio of 10%.

If sodium-power, which is favored by the capital market, wants to maintain its first-mover advantage, materials may become the main breakthrough in the next stage.

At present, the sodium ion battery has not yet formed a complete material industry chain. Enterprises that have been deeply engaged in sodium power for many years have taken the lead in arranging the upstream materials of the sodium ion battery in advance, and some of them have achieved self-research of materials.
